Since I almost never watch TV or listen to the radio, I am always late with discovering new musicians and songs. So I recently discovered the music – and the artistic expressions – of Australian singer/songwriter Sia, and I absolutely fell in love with it. I haven’t been this artistically inspired and moved by another artist for a very, very long time. Not since I saw Lars Von Trier’s “Melancholia” on the big screen.
Sia, who doesn’t like to show her face on TV [she wants to stay ‘unfamous’] is using her muse – the 12 year old dancer Maddie Ziegler as an alter ego, and you can see their amazing collaboration in Sia’s recent music videos and live performances, and it’s just so brilliant, so beautiful, powerful and creative.
I remember watching the final episode of “Six Feet Under” [one of my favorite TV series] ten years ago, and got all goosebumpy by Sia’s song “Breathe Me” that was playing in the last scene with all the deaths of the show’s beloved characters. And when I saw the video for Sia’s “Chandelier” a couple of days ago, I had the same reaction. Sia is my latest art crush, no doubt about it.
