NEW! “Puppet Girl”

“Puppet Girl” digital collage (2020). Soon available.

This one was so much fun to make. In a way it is a self-portrait of how I use to be (a puppet girl for others to manipulate). I have outgrown the chains and nails and I no longer allow anyone to make me feel like a puppet.

Dark Surrealists United – launch day!

Today I’ve launched my new writing project DARK SURREALISTS UNITED  – where I interview dark surrealists and dark artists from all over the world! Please take your time to read the interviews, whenever you feel like getting to know your favorite dark surrealist!

There is also a short introduction with my thoughts about this project. I will continue to interview dark surrealists from all over the world, famous ones, unknown masters, young, old, writers, artists, film makers etc. If you wish to be part of this project, PM me!

“NEW! “Anthem”

“Anthem” by Mia Makila, 2020, archival ultrachrome print. Available.

Finally! I have been working on this piece on-and-off for over 4 months and now it’s all done. This is the story of self-empowerment and it includes a collaboration with my amazingly talented friend Candice Angelini. I used and manipulated a few of her coolest head pieces (Coiffe Shamanic Bird and Post Mortem II) and pieces from her creepy Zombie mask (see last picture for some of the original pieces I used in the collage).

Happy Women’s Day!

What a week! As you all could see here on the site, the week started out with my big artist comeback and ended with the International Women’s Day! So much GIRL POWER! I made this video for all my sisters out there – but the message is for everyone!

We are women, ladies & girls.
We are not objects.
We are not trophies.
We are not here to please you.
We exist on our own terms.
We own our bodies.
We own our stories.
Happy Women’s Day!

Dark Surrealists United

I have some great news to share with you all!  I am currently building a platform for some of the most talented dark surrealists in the world called DARK SURREALISTS UNITED!
I’ve had many dreams in my life – and one of them is the dream of being a writer / journalist and it’s time to catch this dream now – so I am creating a site that will feature interesting interviews with some of your favorite artists and creators of dark and surreal art! At the moment I am juggling interview work with 9 different artists (Nihil, Nathalia Suellen, Jim Kazanjian, Aeron Alfrey, Richard Hoefle etc) This might take a while to finish up, but you have all something really great to look forward to! I believe we all need a break from the reality of real life and just have some fun and enjoy some amazing art! So – stay tuned…
